Peter Ameh Clinches NDC Kogi East Senatorial Ticket, Defeats Prince Yahaya Audu in Landslide Victory

High Chief Peter Ameh has emerged as the senatorial candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Kogi East Senatorial District ahead of the forthcoming elections, following a decisive victory in the party’s primary election.
The official declaration of the results was made on Friday, May 29, 2026, during a well-attended event held in Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State, where party faithful, delegates, and supporters gathered to witness the conclusion of the keenly contested primary.

According to the announced results, High Chief Ameh secured a commanding victory over his closest rival, Prince Yahaya Audu, who finished a distant second in the race. The third aspirant in the contest had earlier stepped down in support of Ameh, further consolidating support for his candidacy.
The outcome is being viewed by political observers as a significant boost for the NDC in Kogi East, with Ameh’s emergence expected to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the senatorial election.
Speaking shortly after being declared the winner, Ameh expressed gratitude to delegates, party leaders, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to run an inclusive campaign focused on addressing the challenges facing the people of Kogi East and ensuring effective representation at the National Assembly.
“I am deeply honored by this overwhelming mandate. This victory belongs to the people of Kogi East and every member of our great party. Together, we will build a stronger platform that reflects the aspirations of our people and delivers meaningful development,” he said.
Party officials described the primary as transparent, peaceful, and democratic, commending aspirants and supporters for maintaining decorum throughout the process.
The NDC leadership also called on all contestants and their supporters to unite behind the party’s candidate to ensure victory at the polls.
With his emergence, High Chief Peter Ameh now carries the banner of the National Democratic Congress into what is expected to be a highly competitive contest for the Kogi East Senatorial seat, as political activities begin to gather momentum across the district.
