The women’s Junior 200m event at the ongoing MTN Champs in Ibadan delivered one of the most exciting contests of the championships so far, as six athletes broke the 24-second barrier in a blistering semifinal round that has set the stage for a thrilling final.Emerging as the fastest qualifier was Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo, who powered to a superb 23.53 seconds to top the semifinal rankings. Her impressive run showed both composure and speed, placing her firmly among the favourites for the title.Not far behind was Tejiri Ugoh, who controlled her semifinal heat brilliantly to cross the line first in 23.58 seconds. Ugoh looked strong through the bend and maintained her rhythm in the closing metres, sending a clear message ahead of the final.

The final semifinal heat was won by Lucy Nwankwo, who also delivered an outstanding performance, clocking 23.76 seconds to secure automatic qualification. Her smooth execution and finishing strength suggest she will be a major contender when the medals are decided.The semifinals also saw two athletes achieve personal best performances. Mariam Jegede ran a lifetime best of 23.74 seconds, while Courage Odika followed with her own personal best of 23.79 seconds, underlining the quality of competition and the rapid development of young sprinting talents at the championships.Adding an international dimension to the event, Ghana’s Aishatu Jaffar booked her place in the final after running 23.98 seconds, making her one of six women to dip below the coveted 24-second mark.
